KOLKATA: Jaguar Land Rover will assemble the Range Rover Evoque in India, enabling the company to price it more competitively in the domestic market.

The stylish SUV will join Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ that are currently assembled in Pune, India. Sales of the locally manufactured Evoque will begin early April 2015.

The development comes as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint globally, increasing its production capacity outside of the UK. Manufacturing of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles began at the Pune plant in 2011 and has since tripled.

“We believe that India is a market that offers significant opportunities for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. I am pleased to announce the broadening of our locally manufactured portfolio, with the introduction of the Range Rover Evoque. It is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at Rs 48.73 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai. This will enable us to access a wider audience which consists of discerning and premium Indian customers who have always loved the brand, aspired to own this SUV and be seen in it. Our investment in the Pune facility demonstrates our continued long-term commitment to the Indian market,” said Jaguar Land Rover India president Rohit Suri.
