DELHI: An Economic Times report stated that both Apple and Samsung are selling smartphones via the Seattle-based etailer at a discount after pulling out the devices from brick-and-mortar stores. Apple slashed prices of the iPhone 5c, which is one of its slowest-selling models, by 30% and now offers it exclusively on Amazon. On the other hand, Samsung offered a 23% discount on the Galaxy S4 smartphone that is up for grab on the website.

Tarun Pathak, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, told ET, “It’s a strategic move by Apple and Samsung to focus on two of the fastest-growing smartphone segments where their presence has been limited.”

He added that e-commerce contribution to total smartphone sales in the country may reach 30% this year as against 15% in 2014.

The sales of both Apple and Samsung devices had been remarkably good, an Amazon India spokesperson told ET.
