DHAKA: Indian Customs have shot Bangladeshi cattle smuggler at Wahedpur border area of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.
The deceased is Tariqul Islam, 35, son of late Yusuf Ali, of Jamaipara village in the district.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 9 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abu Jafar Sheikh Md Bazlul Haque said: “The patrolling troops of BSF 20 of Chandnichak camp in India opened fire on the cattle traders when they were allegedly smuggling cows near pillar 16/4S around 1am on Monday, leaving Tariqul bullet-riddled.”
Tariqul died around 2:30am when his cohorts brought him back to his house.
“We have already sent a protest letter to the BSF authority in this connection,” added the BGB official.
