NEW YORK: An Illinois man stopped for speeding on Interstate 80 had 45 pounds of marijuana in his pickup, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
James C. Slater Jr., 47, was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
The patrol said a trooper stopped Slater for speeding on I-80 at the Giltner exit, just east of Grand Island.
According to the patrol, a police service dog indicated the odor of drugs from the rear of the pickup. A probable cause search resulted in the discovery of 42 packages of marijuana in two suitcases in the bed of Slater’s pickup.
