167 units to be monitored: FBR to install cameras on 5 industrial sectors to halt tax avoidance

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to stop tax evasion by the major industries, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has planned to install cameras on the premises of selected industrial units to monitor their production.

The revenue authority will install the Electronic Monitoring System in the units of five sectors, including sugar, cement, fertiliser, beverages and tobacco to estimate their procurement and operational cost of millions of dollars.

The system is being adopted on Turkish model, which was observed during the visit of a Tariq Bajwa-led FBR team to Turkey to study their system for generating tax revenue. Official sources said that at first phase, the cameras will be installed at 167 industrial units of selected five sectors.

This monitoring system is also used In the US state of California, which has increased their tax revenues by $150 million. Indonesia is monitoring over 50 items through these hi-tech systems.
