NEW DELHI: Indian customs foiled an attempt to smuggle 7.83 kilogram of gold from Sri Lanka through Muthupet-Thiruthuraipoondi coastal stretch in southern Tamil Nadu.
According to DRI, a special team nabbed S Sudhakar, M Sudhakar and V Mohan while they were carrying the consignment worth `2.08 crore, hidden inside the back gear box of their Maruti Swift car, on the East Coast Road on the Muthupet-Thiruthuraipoondi stretch.
During interrogation, they confessed to smuggling, and were arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act, the agency said in a statement.
