Mercedes to launch mid-sized pickup by 2020 to rival Chevrolet Colorado, Ford F-150

SYDNEY: Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch its new mid-sized pickup  by 2020 in order to rival Chevrolet Colorado and Ford F-150 pickup.

The automaker announced this week that it will be debuting a midsize pickup truck before the start of the new decade, and while the truck, as stated, will not be sold in the United States, it will be made available in Australia, Europe, South America, South Africa, and other international markets.

Mercedes didn’t spill much about the upcoming truck, though it did offer a photographic tease, showing off the truck as a concept illustration.  The company added that the truck will have a 2,200 pound cargo capacity, and will be an “all-around utility” vehicle.  It’s quite possible that Mercedes will be going with body-on-frame architecture instead of unibody, and since the truck seems geared toward the international market, it will be offered with diesel and gasoline engine options alike.

Indeed, it looks like Mercedes wants this truck to help the company expand internationally, as global sales of midsize trucks have been picking up, no pun intended, as of late. B “The pickup is the ideal vehicle for the international expansion of our product range with a newly developed model,” said Mercedes-Benz Vans chief Volker Mornhinweg. “We can perfectly serve customers looking for a vehicle that offers a high level of utility and at the same time has the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car.
