Smuggling 4.38kg gold: customs court grants physical remand of accused

LAHORE: The Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Special Court sent an accused in the gold smuggling case on a three-day physical remand.

As per the details, accused Fakhar Mahmood was coming from Dubai by EK-622 and upon thorough search the customs authorities recovered 4.38kg raw gold and ornaments from his luggage at the Allama Iqbal International Airport last week.

The accused was taken into custody and the smuggled gold was confiscated.

Customs authorities presented Mahmood before the court on Tuesday to get his physical remand. The court after hearing arguments from both sides accepted the customs official’s plea and ordered to send the accused on physical remand for further interrogation.

The total value of the confiscated gold has been calculated to be Rs 17 million.

The customs authorities, including Superintendent Rafique and Gulzar Bhatti, had arrested the accused and registered an FIR against him under the Customs ACT, 1969.
