Rs3000 water provided to farmers for Rs85: Govt bears 80% expenditure to run irrigation system, says Asif

LAHORE: The future water needs of the country could be fulfil just through utilising natural water reservoirs, said Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, while addressing a seminar organised by Wapda in connection with the World Water Day.

The minister said that the government was bearing 80 per cent expenditure to run the irrigation system while recovery stood at 20 per cent only. He said that the quantum of water, pumped through a tube-well at a cost of Rs3000, is provided to farmers by the government for just Rs85 with the help of irrigation system.
