MULTAN: The taxation committee of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has expressed dismay over the confusing show cause notices from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Office.

Subcommittee of MCCI has organised the meeting against income tax notices to local businessmen. Issuing a press release after the meeting, Convenor Taxation Subcommittee Anwar Saleem has said that the FBR has issued several notices to the registered manufacturers, traders and businessmen for the payment of income tax against the income tax law under Section 153.

He said that the tax notices for the payment of income tax under Section 153 has some ambiguity which is needed to be removed.

He said that through these notices, the Federal Board of Revenue has asked the businessmen to submit several tax documents, which will be considered as the audit of that firm or the taxpayer. He said that the bodies of the RTO, which have issued these tax notices, were not authorised to probe irrelevant records.

The committee have also requested the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to inform the RTO commissioner about this issue to find a way out.
