10,400 MW more electricity by 2017: Pak, China finalises agreements, MoUs of $15b projects

ISLAMABAD: The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) joint working group has finalised the agreements and MoUs of $15 billion worth of projects, which would be signed during the Chinese President’s visit to Pakistan in next week.

The meeting was co-chaired by Water and Power Secretary Mohammad Younus Dagha and National Energy Administration (NEA) China Vice Administrator Zhang Yuqing. Ministry of Planning and Reform Secretary Hasan Nawaz Tarar, Petroleum and Natural Resources Secretary Arshad Mirza, PM office’s additional secretary and other senior government officials attended the meeting.

NEA Department of Power Director General Han Shui, NEA Oil and Natural Gas Deputy Director General Yang Lei, representatives and heads of around 20 Chinese companies associated with these projects, Chinese banks and sponsors were also present on the occasion.

Sources said that the meeting was informed that Pakistan would install around 10,400 megawatts of electricity by the end of year 2017, as most of the energy projects will start functioning in two years,” the source added.

“The energy projects to be launched during the visit of the president Xi include Karot Hydel Project, Sukki Kinari Project, Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, four wind power projects; Sacahl Power, Dawood Hydro China, Matyari-Lahore Transmission Lin,e and others,” the source added.
