SEOUL: Hyundai has introduced its new HND-12 Enduro crossover concept in Seoul, offering what could be our first look at the carmaker’s anticipated compact SUV.
Hyundai already offers the small ix25 SUV in China, along with the recently revealed i20 Active crossover developed for the Indian market.
But with chances of a western debut for either model all-but written off, it is expected that a new and more dynamically styled model will soon appear.
However, Hyundai has revealed the Enduro, a three-door crossover concept that looks as much like a jacked-up sports hatch as any sort of vaguely practical compact SUV.
Perfect, then, for a new Juke-rivalling Hyundai.
Hyundai describes the Enduro as “the perfect partner for individuals living in the modern city with energetic, athletic lifestyles”.
Sound familiar? Hyundai made similar comments about its recent Santa Cruz pickup concept, developed as more of an urban lifestyle option than as any sort of serious off-roader.
If the Enduro progresses to production, we can likely expect the three-door style to be swapped for a more useful five-door design. The large guard-filling wheels will likely also be replaced with smaller hoops.
Watch for details of the Enduro’s potential to surface in the months ahead.
