CANADA: Since Star Wars hit theater screens in 1977, people had wondered if planets like Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s home world, could be real. For over a decade, numbers of astronomers have dismissed the idea of a planet with two suns existing, stating that gravitational forces would prevent planets from being formed around twin stars.
Forbes reports that a new study from Ben Bromley from the University of Utah and Scott Kenyon from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center posted on the ArXiv website suggest that it is possible. In the paper that has been submitted to the Astrophysical Journal, the pair show, through mathematical simulations, how a binary star system could have planets form in orbit around them, reminiscent of the fictional Tatooine in Star Wars.
These mathematical computations and simulations, according to CNET, planets may actually have a more oval-like orbits around two suns, they could still be safely nested into orbit. This could allow for a planet to develop, something like Tatooine, without being destroyed by gravitational pull. However, the planet would have to watch out for the rule of the Rakata.
Fox News reports The astrophysicists equations showed that, over time, a planets position changes. The equations revealed that there are large orbital properties at play. This shoerf that there are some gentle orbits, which could allow for planet growth.
