TAIPEI: SsangYong has launched its latest concept at the Seoul Motor Show, in the form of a small SUV.
Coming hot on the heels of the all-new Tivoli compact SUV, SsangYong hopes the new concept will further enforce the carmaker’s image as something of an SUV specialist.
The concept is called XAV – which stands for eXciting Authentic SUV – and concentrates on maximising interior space while maintaining small SUV dimensions on the outside.
Utilising ‘boxy’ styling, the concept is designed to store items that an owner may use for outdoor activities. SsangYong doesn’t specify what these items may be, but we’re thinking golf clubs or perhaps water sport apparatuses may be on the list.
A ‘fake’ fuel tank at the rear doubles as a storage compartment for tools or more outdoor activity equipment, while further storage spaces feature throughout the interior.
The interior also features squared-off styling elements, an infotainment screen, climate control air conditioning and an iPad-style instrument display screen for the driver.
Power comes from a 1.6 litre engine matched with an automatic transmission, while an e-AWD system provides further drive for both front and rear wheels via electric motors.
The XAV also previews a future styling direction for SsangYong – not too dissimilar to the Tivoli mentioned before and based on a ‘retro’ interpretation of early Korando models.
