NEW YORK: Android SDK Platform 5.1.1 is available as an incremental Platform SDK update in the Android SDK Manager.

Since the update is visible in the Android SDK Manager, it can be expected the source code to land on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) soon after that the Nexus devices will get the update via OTA.

A lot of manufacturers have not updated to the latest version of Lollipop and Google has already started finalising the next build. The frequent string of updates can be due to a few major bugs in the operating system like the memory leak issue that had annoyed a lot of Lollipop 5.0 users and even persists with a few devices running on Lollipop 5.1.

The memory leak problem was first reported in November but Google acknowledge it in late December. The update will hopefully fix this issue once and for all.
