Upcoming Apple TV to not support 4K video streaming just yet

NEW YORK: The upcoming Apple TV will not support 4K video streaming just yet. Buzzfeed cites people close to the company’s plan to say, “4K is great, but it’s still in its infancy.” The sources reckon that limited availability of UHD content, and the low number of 4K television sets in the market makes the feature undesirable for Apple to pursue for now.

Offering 4K video streaming to masses is also a costly process. Also, for a video featuring four times the pixels seen in a standard HD video, it needs powerful compression technologies to transmit, but will still require a high-bandwidth Internet connection regardless.

Though services like YouTube, Amazon and Netflix already have started delivering 4K video content, it still is a niche product in the market. So, Apple’s supposed decision of not including 4K video support in its upcoming Apple TV makes sense.

The Cupertino-based tech giant, as per a previous report, will fit the new Apple TV with the A8 SoC seen inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that has a capability to run 4K videos, alongside a new and improved storage. It is also likely to ship with a brand new remote and will support Siri voice control, apart from enabling it remotely for a selection of HomeKit-enabled home automation devices, Buzzfeed report citing sources close to the matter.
