Adjudication to issue ONO against M/s Paramount Corporation Ltd in tax evading case

KARACHI: The authorities concerned of Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II have completed its working in order to issue final Order-in-Original against the importer M/s Paramount Corporation Limited in its alleged involvement in evading legitimate duty/taxes amounting to Rs 10 million in violation of description, quantity and classification in import of motorcycle spare parts.

According to details, the Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (East) in month of October-2014 found a tax evasion case against the importer M/s Paramount Corporation Limited and constituted a contravention report in tax evasion of Rs 10 million against the importer.

In the case, the R&D Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) during scrutiny of the import data found that the importer M/s Paramount Corporation Limited was allegedly involved in clearance of motorcycle spare parts through mis-declaration of description, value, quantity and classification of the consignments.

Subsequently, the R&D Section was made Contravention Report (CR) against the importer M/s Paramount Corporation in the month of October and forwarded to the authorities concerned of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II.

Reacting on the contravention report sent by the R&D Section, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II has served show-cause notice to the importer M/s Paramount Corporation Limited on 11-Nov-2014 in which it asked the importer M/s Paramount Corporation to present its view point on 19-Nov-2014.

Later on, five more hearings had been held in the Office of the Collector of Customs Adjudication-II and recently, the adjudicating authorities are going to issue final ONO in the current week.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Adjudicating Authorities may issue ONO against the importer M/s Paramount Corporation Limited, as the authorities are quite satisfied with the comments presented by the departmental representative of MCC-Appraisement (East).

They further said that the adjudicating authorities may also impose fine/penalty on the importer on its involvement in evading duty/taxes intentionally.
