Karachi: Customs Directorate of Post Clearance Audit facing dire shortage of staff

KARACHI: Customs Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) is facing dire shortage of working strength that is impacting performance of department negatively.

Sources informed Customs Today that the Directorate of Post Clearance Audit right now is working with the strength of one principal appraiser and two appraisers while more surprisingly; no additional director is deputed in the directorate.

The field formation of the directorate consists of a director, two deputy directors, two assistant directors, one principal appraiser and two appraisers, while the sanctioned strength of the appraisers and principal appraisers are of 16 and 18 respectively.

The sources further said that the FBR authorities concerned despite repeatedly intimations have not yet responded in order to overcome the shortage of staffers in the directorate.

When contacted, Directorate of Post Clearance Audit Director Gul Rehman said that the directorate was managing to carry out day to day affairs in befitting manners despite all odds and will continue to improve the working and performance of the directorate.

It is pertinent to mention here that the several departments of Pakistan Customs-a wing of FBR, are facing dire shortage of working strength which will certainly put a negative impact on the performance of those departments by the passage of time.

The departments of customs which are facing shortage of staff including Directorate General of Internal Audit, Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Collectorates of Customs Adjudication in addition with the directorate of Post Clearance Audit.
