Amman exports to Iraqi market decline 19% in 1st quarter of 2015

AMMAN: The Amman exports to the Iraqi market declined by 19 percent in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the same period of last year,Director General of the ACI , Nael Hussami said.

A report issued on Monday indicated that exports of the chamber to Iraq in the first quarter of this year stood at JD90 million, compared to JD235 million in the first period of last year. Hussami warned of a continued decline in exports to Iraq, which is the main market for Jordanian industrial products, and called for exerting further efforts to remove obstacles facing these exports.

He said the main obstacles are the low number of Iraqi trucks that enter Jordan to carry Jordanian commodities and exports to Iraq. Arab Asian countries accounted for a majority of the ACI exports in the first quarter of 2015. These exports rose to JD588 million, compared to JD568 million in the same period of last year.  Exports to Arab African countries declined to JD60 million, compared to JD81 million in the same period of last year.

According to the report, exports of the chamber of Arab and foreign countries rose in the first three months of this year. India ranked first with JD134 million worth of exports followed by the United States with JD92 million, the UAE JD76 million, Palestine JD27 million, Turkey JD21 million, Bulgaria JD20 million, Indonesia JD31 million and Singapore JD15 million.
