MELBOURNE: Intel’s new Compute Stick PC, which is touted to be the world’s smallest computer, can now be pre-ordered through some online stores at a cost of about 100-150 dollars.

The stick-sized computer comes in two variations. The one that is powered by Windows 8.1 will cost $150, while the Linux version will come for $110, reported PC World.

As we were previously telling you, this device is basically a tiny computer with an HDMI connector that lets you plug it into the HDMI port on your TV or monitor. Thus, you can turn pretty much any TV or monitor in your house into an all-in-one desktop that can run Windows or Linux, as look as it has an HDMI port. The stick is expected to be available sometime later this month, but several retailers like Newegg, are already taking pre-orders.

As we can see, Newegg is listing two versions – the Intel Ultra-slim PC Compute Stick Intel Atom Windows 8.1 version which can be preordered for a price of $150; and the Linux model which can be yours for $110. However, as you can see for yourself, both models are currently out of stock and there’s no telling when they will become available again.

The Linux version is cheaper because it comes only with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, whereas the Windows 8.1 one has 2GB of internal storage and a 32GB SSD. But this seems to be the case with Amazon and Zones retailer, as Newegg claims both models actually have the same specs. Let’s hope somebody will come with a precise statement on this.
