TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks were higher on Thursday as transport shares were lifted by falling oil prices overnight and investors were encouraged by steady overseas markets.
As of 0142 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 0.79 per cent to 9,647.99. It closed 0.73 per cent down on Wednesday.
Thursday’s gains were broad based.
The electronics subindex was up 0.8 per cent, while the financial subindex was ahead 0.7 per cent and the transport subindex up 1.5 per cent.
EVA Airways was 3.6 per cent higher and China Airlines was 1.7 per cent ahead.
The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.089 to stand at T$31.137 to the US dollar.
