ISLAMABAD: FBR Spokesman Shahid Hussain Asad on Friday said that the government is committed to broadening the tax net for the economic revival and to enhance the economic growth in the country.
He said that FBR launched an aggressive drive for broadening tax base and in this connection National Tax Number (NTN) has been issued to 3.5 millions taxpayers. He said that out of 3.5 millions taxpayers, only 10 % have returned the tax files, which is very low ratio for halting the budget deficit in fiscal years 2014. Shahid Hussain Asad said that FBR was aiming to issue the notices to those non-compliant persons, who have not returned their tax files.

The FBR Spokesman said the government directed all Chief Commissioners to send Income Tax returns file notices to the people, who have National Tax Number (NTN) but they did not return their tax files. He added that Chief Commissioners have instructions to ensure the 90% tax returns from non tax payers from all over the country to generate the revenue for economic growth of the country.
Replying to a question, he said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has announced the tax incentive package for non-taxpayers and they would be given special relaxations in tax returns. Besides, amnesty scheme was also launched for potential taxpayers to declare their undisclosed assets at either zero or nominal rates with soft conditions.
