WARSAW: Poland’s Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek stated that the Polish zloty’s current strength constitutes no threat to economic growth in 2015. “Given the main drivers of GDP – investments and consumption – the current strengthening of the zloty is no direct threat to the 2015 GDP growth forecast,” Szczurek said.
“It is, of course, a factor which reduces the profitability of exports or constitutes a certain challenge for a portion of the economy, but I am convinced that at these levels it is not yet a threat for Polish firms,” he added. Poland’s zloty approached EUR/PLN 4 Thursday morning, in a show of strength unseen since H2 2011. Since the beginning of 2015 the currency has appreciated by ca. 6.4%.
