MUMBAI: Micromax has announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Micromax Unite 2 . The company added that new buyers of the Unite 2 after that date will get Android 5.0 Lollipop preloaded on the handsets, which will now be priced at Rs. 6,299.

The company also claimed to have sold over 1.5 million units of the Unite 2 since its launch back in May, adding that this translates to three units sold per minute.

The Micromax Unite 2 was the company’s first phone to support 21 languages (English, and 20 regional languages) with its Reverie Multilingual Pack. At launch, it was priced at Rs. 6,999 – pegged to compete with the Motorola Moto E – and ran Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box.

The Micromax Unite 2 smartphone offers dual-SIM support, and features a 4.7-inch Bright Graph IPS display with a 480×800 pixel resolution. An unspecified quad-core processor powers the device, clocked at 1.3GHz, along with 1GB of RAM.

The Unite 2 sports a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 2-megapixel fixed focus front-facing camera also onboard. The handset comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage, and can be expanded to an additional 32GB via microSD card. The Micromax Unite 2 supports 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS under its wireless connectivity options. It is backed by a 2000mAh battery.

Unfortunately, Micromax has not provided changelog for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Unite 2 smartphone. The update will certainly feature the changes brought by Google to the platform, such as the Material Design UI; improved notification system; Kill Switch and improved security; improved hardware keyboard accessory support (including support for multilingual, emoji input, search key, and improved app and system key chords); improved accessibility features (such as text contrast boost, colour inversion, and enhanced colour differentiation); improved audio, video, and camera capabilities, and improved Internet connectivity everywhere apart from more powerful Bluetooth low energy capabilities
