KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has urged the traders to help bring peace in the metropolis.
He said this, after inaugurating 12th ‘My Karachi: Oasis of Harmony’ international trade exhibition, being organised by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)at Expo Centre.
The Sindh CM appealed the private sector to join the provincial government in developing the city, which he said is very important from cultural, political and economic point of view. He pointed out that heavy influx of people, even from neighbouring countries, into the city had created serious problems in maintaining law and order, developing the infrastructure and providing civic amenities to the fast-growing population. Besides, the industries were facing shortage of water, gas and electricity, he said.
He informed the business community that the Sindh government had started work on K-4, a mega project of water supply to the city. However, half of the funds for the project from the federal government were still awaited, he added. He reiterated Sindh government’s demand for providing the required quantity of natural gas from its indigenous sources.
The provincial government would also take up the issue of liquefied natural gas (LNG) import in the Council of Common Interests (CCI), he said.
Acknowledging KCCI’s efforts for organising the exhibition, he expressed satisfaction over the participation of exhibitors, including those from 19 countries. “The exhibition will greatly help project a positive image of the country and build confidence of local and foreign investors.”
KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Chief SM Muneer, former KCCI president Siraj Kassam Teli and former adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Investment and former president KCCI Muhammad Zubair Motiwala were also present on the occasion.
