HELSINKI: Finnish crane manufacturer Konecranes has received an order from PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III in Surabaya for three Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes.
Upon their delivery at the end of 2016, this will bring the total of Konecranes STS cranes at PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) to seven, with an additional 16 Konecranes RTG cranes also in operation on site. Konecranes has a service contract with TPS.
The STS cranes are high-performance cranes with a lifting capacity of 60 tonnes and an outreach of 46 metres. As a result, the cranes will enable TPS to handle larger vessels upo the completion of the Surabaya West Access Channel improvement.
TPS represents an important gateway to East Java. It forms part of a central government plan to interlink six major Indonesian seaports in order to form a single main sea corridor in the country. This so-called Pendulum of the Archipelago seeks to trim the cost of domestic logistics by up to half.
