ANF seizes 6.3 tons narcotics worth Rs 10.75 billion

ISLAMABAD: Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 6.3 ton narcotics worth Rs 10.75 billion and apprehended nine traffickers, including two employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in country-wide operations.

The ANF, in six operations across the country, recovered 4.15 ton opium, 2.18 ton charas and 18.4 Kg heroin. Most of the recovered drugs were destined abroad.

The ANF Quetta seized 4,142 Kg opium and 2,139 Kg charas from general area of Surkhab, Tehsil Khanezai, District Pishin. The drug consignment was concealed at a secret site situated in the cuttings of mountainous terrain, far away from the populated area.

As per initial reports, drugs were placed at a cache site for handing over to some other narcotics. The consignment was to be despatched to some safe location at Panjgur and was finally intended to be smuggled abroad.

An ANF Karachi Airport team conducted an intelligence based operation and intercepted a person namely Arshad Mehmood at Jinnah International Airport. During search the ANF recovered 17.200 Kg fine quality heroin concealed in it. The accused intended to fly for Italy by Qatar Airways Flight No. QR605.

He was offloaded from the plane, while taxying for take-off. After initial investigations, DTO was busted by arresting two PIA employees namely Asif Khan and Usman Rana, while raids were being conducted to apprehend another accused PIA employee namely Adnan.

The ANF Karachi on pursuance of an information, raided a place situated in Sherpao Colony, Landhi, Karachi and seized 6 Kg Charas from the premises.

As per initial information, the place was being run as a drug den by Gul Hassan Afridi alias Gul Hasi and Fazal Muhammad alias Kaka, who are still at large and efforts to arrest the culprits are in hand.

An ANF Peshawar Road Check team intercepted a Honda car (LEE-3389) at a combined check post on Indus Highway, Kohat and recovered 24 Kg charas from the car. Two persons on board namely Khan Muhammad and Yar Shah, both residents of Khyber Agency were arrested at the spot.

The ANF Lahore in an information based operation seized a Honda Civic car near main Motorway Sheikhupura Interchange, Shiekhupura and recovered 14 Kg charas and 9.4 Kg opium from secret cavities of the car.

Two drug traffickers on board Jahan Zeb Khan and Muhammad Ismail Khan, resident of Peshawar, were also arrested during the operation. As per preliminary reports, they were trying to smuggle the drugs to Punjab.

A Sialkot Airport team during routine checking at Sialkot Airport intercepted a suspected passenger namely Muhammad Tanvir Abbas, resident of Khushab and recovered 1.2 Kg heroin concealed in 2 marble vases. The accused was boarding for Jeddah by Shaheen Airlines Flight No. NL-715.
