OTTAWA: BlackBerry Passport smartphone has won the prestigious Red Dot Best of the Best design award. Given for particularly innovative design, the Best of the Best award is the highest individual award Red Dot gives out.

According to Dr Peter Zec, the founder and CEO of the German design organization, Red Dot’s panel of judges looked at 5,000 entries this year. In the end, the Passport beat 80 other products to take the top prize.

This is not the first time the Passport has won a design award for its unique design. In January, the smartphone won the design award.

Moreover, it’s also not the first time the BlackBerry design team has won a Red Dot award. In 2013, the BlackBerry Z10; in 2014, the Q5, Q10 and Z30 were all honoured, as well. However, this is the first time a BlackBerry device has won Red Dot’s coveted Best of the Best award. As a result, the Passport will be added to the permanent collection of the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore.

For those that would like to know how the design of the Passport came together, the company posted a video on its blog of the BlackBerry design team discussing the device.
