KARACHI: The Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Saqib Ahmed Soomro, has said that despite the influential mafia is behind the encroachments, the government will handle the encroacher with iron hands.

Saqib Ahmed Soomro said that all the amenity plots will be used for the original purpose only or their allotment will be cancelled for which necessary law making has already been made. He said that solid waste management board was established to remove more than two million tons of garbage and waste which was deposited in the last 10 years in city’s rivers, drains and empty plots.

The Administrator said that only 10 percent of the garbage generated in the city was removed in the city before the launching of the cleanliness campaign by Provincial Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Innam Memon. The benefit of this campaign was that more than 75 percent of total garbage was being removed now, he added.

He expressed these views during a talk in his office. Administrator Karachi said work on Elevated Expressway was underway and work on it will begin after the documentation process was completed.

Replying to a query he dismissed this impression that the private sector was doing development projects for its own benefit, adding that in fact these projects would be beneficial for the citizens and if the constructors get some benefit it would not harm the city.
