IOS 8 adoption rate starts increasing: report

NEW YORK: From time to time, Apple released updates for its mobile operating system: iOS. Every time, we went through the same debate about adoption rate and how the iOS is accepted better than versions of Android and other mobile operating systems. This time, however, the achievement is actually rather interesting to look into.

Yes, Apple recently announced that the adoption rate of the iOS 8 is now at 79%. The report is available through the usual App Store Distribution page that developers can access. 19% of iOS users are now on iOS 7, while the remaining 2% are using older versions of the operating system.ios8logo

Keep in mind that last month, the adoption rate of iOS 8 was at 72%. An increase of just 7% a month may not seem much at first, but it is actually a huge jump. Android 5.0 Lollipop, for example, is currently at around 5% adoption rate 4 months into its release. The entirely Apple-controlled ecosystem is really helping Apple roll out their latest iOS faster, which in turn allows users to enjoy the new features much sooner.

The increase of iOS 8 adoption rate is not only contributed by those who updated their iOS devices. Sales of new iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch are very high this past month, especially with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being so popular among users. There has also been a large number of people switching to iOS or using an iOS device for the first time.

For those of you thinking that the 7% increase is still relatively small, let me paint the scene for you. There are over 800 millions iOS devices circulating right now. A 1% increase is the same as 8 million new devices being updated to iOS 8, which means the 7% increase represents more than 50 million iOS 8-equipped devices.

Apple has recently released the iOS 8.3, the latest update to the operating system. It introduces fixes for known bugs and stability improvements. It also increases the performance of iOS devices if ever so slightly, with improvements in battery life and overall user experience also added to the mix.

Based on everything that has been outlined so far, what do you personally think about the current iOS 8 adoption rate? Are you still using an older version of iOS? If the answer to this question is a YES, then we would love to hear from you. Let us know why you are not updating to a new version – or the latest version – in the Comments section below.
