NEW YORK: Many users have been complaining about drained battery life both in Cyanogen 12 and Android 5.0 operating systems. To address the issue for the Cyanogen 12 problem, users need to download a file in XDA Developers. For the Android 5.0 Lollipop, there are tips provided by a tech site.
A number of Cyanogen OS 12 (CM12S) users have been complaining already about the reduced battery life in the latest Lollipop Cyanogen update. The problem caused the device to never going to deep sleep. The cause of the problem was perceived to be a Google Play Services wakelock, which was a part of the Google Play Services (SystemUpdateService) OTA, and was also deactivated in Android KitKat and previous Cyanogen versions.
In the Android 5.0, deactivating Google’s OTA system is reportedly not going to work. What causes the device to stay awake is that the update services get a wakelock to check for upgrades; however, since the SystemUpdateService is deactivated, it never finishes. Thus, causing the device’s battery life drained. It was also noted that this was the way the Lollipop update goes on in Play Services 7.x. Hence, a deactivated SystemUpdateService could affect any device/ROM.
For the Cyanogen OS, an upgrade is said to be coming, perhaps next week, so that issues would be reduced. As of this writing, there are no fixes released yet. However, a recognized developer (Calkulin) in XDA Developers provided a temporary fix for the problem. The developer advised, “To install, flash the zip in recovery.”
Another group of smartphone users recently experienced problems with the Android 5.0 update. Some HTC One M8 owners complained in online forums that the update drained the battery life, changed the keyboard, and caused WiFi problems. Nevertheless, Gotta Be Mobile provided steps and fixes for these problems.
Meanwhile, various mobile carriers are now releasing Android 5.0 updates for Galaxy and LG devices. Verizon has announced a Lollipop upgrade for Galaxy Note 3; AT&T released Android 5.0 update for Galaxy Alpha S5 Active, and LG G2; and T-Mobile also rolled out Lollipop upgrade for LG G2. G2 owners can as well download the update manually by following the steps provided in T-Mobile’s support site.
