DUBAI: In its 50th year, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has succeeded in adding more excellence awards to its long list of achievements by winning the Dubai Human Development Award – Government Sector, organised by the Dubai Department of Economic Development during a ceremony held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Commenting on the Dubai Human Development Award win, H.E. Majed Al Shamsi, Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber, stated that this is a timely honour as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of Dubai Chamber and reflects on the Chamber’s commitment to providing an stimulating work environment for its employees and Dubai’s business community at large, adding that the Chamber invests heavily in its staff by enriching their performance in offering value-added services to the business community.
Al Shamsi added that the Chamber applies international best practices in the area of human resources as it attaches great importance to employee development and constantly works to enhance their skills and improve their relationship with the senior management through an open door policy and transparency in the work place which ultimately contribute to employee satisfaction and help increase their productivity, while enhancing overall corporate performance, he said.
On his part, Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, pointed out the Chamber’s efforts in strengthening the culture of institutional excellence and human resources development in the organisation.
He said: “As part of its efforts to stimulate the business environment and to offer world-class services to the business community, the Chamber organised 800 training courses over 1,115 training days last year which was 96% higher to the year 2013, to all its employees, according to their individual competency levels as well as to support their growth in the long run.”
He added that the Chamber has recently launched a Leadership Development Programme to enhance thinking power and teamwork and to execute practical plans while influencing team performance through self-development for its senior and middle management in collaboration with UK’s Cranfield School of Management.
The Chamber also provided the British Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) training programme to develop staff skills in teamwork and management techniques and leadership in line with the organisation’s strategy to develop and refine the skills of staff while investing in their abilities, said Al Zaabi.
