WASHINGTON: Istvan Szapudi at the University of Hawaii along with his colleagues said that they might have found the biggest and largest thing out there, it is the ‘supervoid’ or nothingness. Astronomers first found out about supervoid in 2004 and they call it “cold spot.”
According to Szapudi, this supervoid measures more than a billion light years across. The supervoid is found in the direction of constellation Eridanus. As the name suggests, it is empty, a very large emptiness.
Using the Planck satellite, the astronomers were able to map the supervoid.
Szapudi further described the supervoid as ‘a void so wide it does funny things to light.’ Their theory is that when a light enters the supervoid, it comes out with less energy. Probably, it was stretched when it entered the vast emptiness. The researchers said this might explain the cold spots on radiation maps.
