Chinese minister Yu Guangzhou meets secretary general of World Customs Organization

BEIJING: Minister Yu Guangzhou and Vice Minister Sun Yibiao met Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization in Beijing.

Minister Yu spoke highly of the work done by the WCO and by Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the WCO and put forward three proposals on promoting the common development of the WCO and its member Customs. Firstly, to advance global trade security and facilitation, to further joint operation in law enforcement, to promote enforcement cooperation between member Customs and encourage them to draw upon international practices and to adopt international standards. Secondly, to push forward the implementation of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation and to promote the integration of all efforts by more targeted work of the WCO, more active role played by the WCO members Customs in fulfilling their duties in their own countries or regions and their better exchange of experience and communication. Thirdly, to make greater efforts in capacity building by cultivating and absorbing the resources of member Customs, having comments from them and paying attention to the requests by the developing and least developed members Customs so as to promote the common development of the global Customs community.
