KATHMANDU: With a view to enhancing the close and friendly relations between India and Nepal, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and the New Delhi-based Lalit Kala Akademi for promotion of and cooperation in the field of art and culture.

As part of the Nepal-India Art Exchange Programme, the MoU envisages NAFA and Lalit Kala Akademi working hand-in-hand to further enhance mutual understanding and friendly cultural relationship between the fine arts academicians, creative artists, culture administrators, scholars and intellectuals of the two countries through the exchange of delegations relating to various fine arts and cultural issues, and art exhibitions and exchange programmes on a reciprocal basis.

These two organisations will organise seminars and symposia on contemporary art practices and conduct art workshops and related activities between two countries.

Indian ambassador in Nepal Ranjit Rae, who was present at the signing ceremony, said: “Art is one of the crucial areas that bring India and Nepal closer. This was a much awaited MoU.

The embassy of India in Kathmandu will lend all support to promoting exchange of art and culture between our two countries.”
