$1.17 billion project: Kabul to get $45m for electricity transit under CASA-1000

KABUL: The Afghan media has reported that the country will receive $45 million for electricity transit under CASA-1000 project.

According to the data, Afghanistan will also get more 1.25 cents on every kilowatt of electricity transiting from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan.

Kyrgyzstan Minister for Energy and Industry Kubanychbek Turdubaev signed the Intergovernmental Council Resolution on approval of the final texts of some legal documents and related issues on CASA-1000 project on April 24 in Istanbul. The project cost is estimated at $1.17 billion. Start of construction is expected in September 2015.

The project involves the construction of a high-voltage power line, which connects the power systems of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan with Afghanistan and Pakistan for export of electricity from Central Asian countries and development of appropriate treaties and mechanisms by international standards.
