PM Nawaz Sharif sets up ‘Special Delivery Unit’ to work on CPEC

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced setting up of a special unit for effective implementation of projects along Pakistan China Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The unit that started functioning from today would be called Pakistan’s first Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (PMDU).

The Prime Minister was given a presentation by the PMDU team members, led by Spokesman Musaddiq Malik, here at the PM House.

A statement from the PM House said that the unit has been set up to bring a paradigm shift in the standard of governance and ensuring timely implementation of key development projects.

“For the first time in country’s history, a special unit has been created in the Prime Minister’s Office, comprising top flight professionals from the private sector, initially tasked by the Prime Minister to support concerned ministries in removing any bottlenecks in effective implementation of LNG related energy projects as well as in projects, being planned under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor,” the statement said.

Through PMDU, the Prime Minister would monitor performance of ministries on weekly basis; the statement said and added it will improve inter-ministerial coordination to ensure their timely response on important public service delivery matters.

PMDU will work in close unison with ministries concerned, the statement said.
