BEIJING: Officers of Khorgos (Huo’erguosi) Customs House (affiliated to Urumqi Customs District) found 15 packages of marijuana with a total weight of 4.9 kilograms from the luggage of 2 outward Pakistani passengers. This is the first drug trafficking case that Urumqi Customs District has seized since the start of the national anti-drug trafficking operation codenamed “Violet Light”.
Customs officers found, while exercising control over the carry-on luggage of two outward Pakistani passengers, 15 black plastic bags wrapped by a pair of long johns. A task force was formed to investigate the case. And 5 suspects were arrested.
The General Administration of Customs has given a direction, asking all the Customs offices across the country to take part in the anti-drug trafficking operation codenamed “Violet Light”. Accordingly, Urumqi Customs District has mounted several special operations at the border to fight against drug trafficking, for example, the operation codenamed “Gale” and the operation codenamed “Falcon”.
