OTTAWA: Canada Border Services Agency staff seized a variety of prohibited items so far this year, including butterfly knives, brass knuckles, child pornography and steroids.
In January, officers in Saskatoon seized a shipment containing 22 brass knuckles, the agency said in a news release.
The same month, the officers at the Regina airport seized five butterfly knives from a couple returning from Southeast Asia. On two occasions, Regina officers seized child pornography.
At the North Portal border crossing, officers seized stun guns, pepper spray and over-capacity magazines.
In March, officers at North Portal also seized approximately 50 ml and 130 tablets of steroids from a man and woman.
They were fined $1,000 because they tried to hide the steroids in the vehicle.
Both travellers were arrested before being released. The man was ultimately refused entry for being a “non-genuine visitor,” CBSA said.
