Kuwait GDDC seizes 1m illegal Captagon pills

KUWAIT CITY: Two Syrian expatriates of ages 23 and 24 were arrested for smuggling one million illegal Captagon pills into the country from Lebanon in wooden plant boxes and pots that are used for farming purposes and storing it in Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh area.

According to sources, when the Directorate General for Drug Control received information that the Captagon pills were smuggled into the country, a team was formed for investigations. After confirming the information and taking necessary legal measures, an undercover agent was sent to the suspects to their den in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area to buy 60,000 pills for KD 33,000.

However, during the transaction, the two suspects were arrested. The officers searched the location to find wooden plant boxes and pots which they checked to find the narcotic pills known as Captagon. The suspects were referred with the confiscated drugs to the concerned authorities for necessary action against them. Officers are conducting further investigations with them to figure out if they have accomplices and obtain their identity.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Abdulhameed Al-Awadhi said to KUNA the drugs were sent from Lebanon to Kuwait via air cargo, and the movement was monitored from Lebanon until it arrived in Kuwait, collected by the two Syrian men and stored in Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh area. He affirmed that seizing this enormous amount of Captagon pills was tantamount to a preemptive strike against the drug smugglers and dealers who flood the country with their poisonous products. In addition, Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad expressed appreciation over the work of the ministry personnel in seizing such large quantity of illegal drugs and arresting gangs of smugglers and dealers
