KARACHI: To achieve the economic growth, public holidays in main government functionaries should be restricted at one in a week, which would certainly lowering the trade deficit as well as bring stability in country’s economy.
This was stated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Trade Development Association of Pakistan (TDAP) S M Muneer at a reception hosted in his honour by Danish Khan, former Chairman of Pakistan Tannery Association (PTA).
Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, prominent businessmen Khalid Tawab, Gulzar Firoz, President Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui, former President KATI) Farukh Mazhar, Nasir-ud-Din Shaikh, Zubair Chhaya, Farhan-ur-Rehman, Waheed Shah and others were also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman TDAP S M Muneer said that the exporters and businessmen are forced to buy water from tankers against hefty amount, which is on one hand increased the cost of doing business while on the other hand also affecting the business activities.
S M Muneer further said that the business community in order to resolve the current issue pertaining to the water shortage would soon meet with the Corps Commander Karachi, Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar and DG Rangers and will inform them about the poor situation of water supply to the industrial zones of Karachi.
He further suggested that if the ministry of finance releases the tax refund of Rs 100 billion, then the exports would be increased by $8 billion.
On the occasion, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that target killing of doctors, professors and police officers has once again out of control, which is certainly a matter of concern to the authorities of the government.
Prominent businessman Khalid Tawab while speaking the gathering said that the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) is trying its level best to provide a very balance budget to make the federal budget “business friendly” in order to improve exports.
Tawab further informed that the suggestions have already been given by the FPCCI to the federal government regarding resolving the issues of customs, sales tax, rebate, circular debt and refunds for improving the business and trade activities.
On the occasion, he stressed upon abolishing the SRO culture with a view to enhancing the trade.
Chairman KATI Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui said that the new wave of targeted killing is unacceptable as our enemies for their ultra motives targeting doctors, professors and other professionals, adding that the targeted killing incidents should be investigated properly.
