GEORGIA: Governor Nathan Deal signed HB 170, the Transportation Funding Act of 2015, into law. Statement from Chris Clark, president and CEO, Georgia Chamber of Commerce: Throughout Georgia’s history, there are examples of the positive and lasting impact of transportation investment.  House Bill 170 will allow us to maintain those critical investments and continue to leverage them as a tool for economic growth and job creation.

We commend Governor Deal, Lieutenant Governor Cagle, Speaker Ralston, House Transportation Chairman Jay Roberts, Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Tommie Williams and Senator Steve Gooch for their unwavering commitment to the bill signed today and to the future of our state.

Statement from Michael Sullivan, Chair of the Georgia Transportation Alliance and President and CEO of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia:

Creating new sources of funding – even when there is consensus around the need – is never easy.  We applaud the thoughtful, deliberative approach that our state’s elected leaders took not only during the recent legislative session, but for the year leading up to the passage of House Bill 170.

The funding generated as a result of this bill will make our roads safer, alleviate congestion, and reduce Georgia’s reliance on the federal government.   We are grateful for the strong support this challenging issue received from Governor Deal, Lieutenant Governor Cagle, Speaker Ralston, House Transportation Chairman Jay Roberts, Senate Transportation Chairman Tommie Williams, Senator Steve Gooch and the members of the General Assembly on both sides of the aisle who voted yes on this important measure.
