ADBWC for getting benefits from programs, initiatives of UN on women empowerment

ABU DHABI: Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Al-Rumaithi, Chairwoman of the Emirates Business Women Council and Chairwoman of the Executive Board of the Abu Dhabi Business Women Council (ADBWC), emphasized on the importance of benefiting from the program of the UN on empowering women as well as increasing women’s role in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.

During a meeting with Mrs. Lakshmi Puri, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, H.E. Al-Rumaithi said that under the wise leadership and the unlimited support of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE, the woman in the UAE achieved tremendous accomplishments. “The approach of empowering women continued under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and her role increased thanks to a special care by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi,” she said.

The Chairwoman added that the support of the wise leadership of Abu Dhabi encouraged women to move forward towards achieving more excellence and entrepreneurship. “Since its foundation, our country was aware of providing all the laws which would secure the rights of individuals without discrimination between the man and woman within an environment of equal opportunities and justice between the two sexes as well as freedom in choosing careers,” she said.

For her part, Mrs. Lakshmi Puri noted that the role of the UN Entity for the Empowerment of Women focuses on supporting the policies of the UN affiliated entities which are related to gender equality and the role of women in leadership and economic empowerment of women. She noted that the initiative of HeForShe is one of the initiatives that was launched by the UN last year to stop any form of inequality between the two sexes by 2020 which will make it easy for women to receive their entitlements in all aspects of life.
