The workshop shed light on the legal framework of employment in the UAE, including the free zones, and the rights conferred by the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 concerning the regulation of labour relations, as well as the likely issues arising from termination of the employment relationship.

In her welcome address, Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, stated that with the expansion of the UAE market, the demand for recruiting and managing manpower has increased, therefore, it is crucial to understand the legal structure related to employment in the UAE in order to ensure compliance and to avoid any potential issues.

She further stressed that this workshop is designed to meet the needs of the business community and to provide a thorough understanding of the legal framework surrounding employment in the UAE.

Jamie Liddington, Head of Employment, Hadef & Partners, added: “The UAE is a young nation which has experienced an unprecedented rate of development. The framework of employment and immigration laws has its foundations in legislation which is now 42 years old (Immigration Law) and 35 years old (Labour Law).

“Given the changes which have taken place during this period, it is not surprising that today’s employers face significant challenges in applying the law to modern workplaces across diverse business sectors.  As the UAE continues to grow and develop at rapid pace, it is important that employers receive up-to-date information on best practice, practical solutions and future developments. We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Dubai Chamber in bringing this information to the local business community,” she said.

Dubai Chamber regularly organises training, seminars and workshops to serve the business community in boosting their trade and contributing to the economic growth of Dubai.
