KARACHI: Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem has asked the Collector-MCC Exports to take effective action against illegal export of turtle meat, bones and skulls to foreign countries, it is learnt here.
The sources informed Customs Today that the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem while taking notice of the illegal export of turtle meat, bones and skulls to other foreign countries including Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan has directed the authorities concerned of the MCC-Export to take effective action smuggling of turtle body parts.
In the letter, the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem urged the Collector-MCC Exports and other authorities concerned to keep strict vigilance of export consignments, particularly at Air Freight Unit (AFU).
It is pertinent to mention here that the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Pakistan Customs has already foiled smuggling bids of turtles and its organs during the scrutiny at airport.
The sources further disclosed that the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) has directed the Collector-MCC Exports to evolve an effective strategy in this regard.
“The Collector-MCC Exports Agha Shahid Majeed in the absence of Collector Javed Ghani has given the task to the additional collector-ADC Irfan Javed to work on said assignment and investigate about those elements who involved in illegal export of turtle organs”, sources added.
