New institutions, individuals to be brought into tax net: Minister

LAHORE: New institutions and individuals will be brought into tax net to increase the provincial economy. Revenue duty, stamp duty, Abiyana, cotton fee, property, token and services taxes are the major source of income for the government.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation, Law and Finance, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman here Thursday.

He was presiding over the meeting of resource mobilisation committee.

He said that government is introducing modern computerized technology for improving the system of collection of taxes.

Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that some people and entrepreneurs are paying just two or three hundred rupees annually under the head of professional tax, therefore, government is considering to increase the ratio of professional tax on well to do professionals.

The minister said that government has adopted the policy of computerization and e-technology for collection of taxes instead of increasing tax on common people as well as tax net would be broadened on well-to-do people and institutions.

Online collection of token tax, property tax and other taxes from Bank of Punjab, Ufone, Master card and other departments is also under consideration so that payment of tax could be made simple and easy and citizens will be able e pay their tax at any franchise in any part of the country, he concluded.
