TAIPEI: Dubai-based airline Emirates said it will expand capacity on its Taipei-Dubai route by 20% starting Dec. 1 to meet increasing demand from Taiwan’s market.

The carrier said it will use a two-class Boeing 777-300ER instead of a three-class Boeing 777-300ER on the flight, increasing capacity to 428 passengers or 74 more than at present.

Emirates said it will also add four Taipei-Dubai flights in June, also using the Boeing 777-300ER model, adding two flights from Taipei to Dubai on June 11 and June 28, and two flights from Dubai to Taipei on June 11 and June 27.

The airline became the first and only airline offering direct flights between the two cities when it launched services in February 2014, but it has positioned itself as offering convenient transfers to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
