Hyderabad Customs arrests ring leader of gang involved in smuggling of non-duty paid vehicles

KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Hyderabad has succeeded in arresting the ring leader of a gang involved in smuggling of non-duty paid vehicles, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that the MCC-Hyderabad has presented the arrested accused, Muhammad Yasir, before the Customs Court and requested a 14-day remand to conduct investigations.

The sources further revealed that the Customs authorities arrested the accused on Friday evening and brought him to the Custom House Hyderabad for investigation.

The sources further disclosed that during the course of investigation the arrested accused Yasir was made sensational revelations and stated that some influential personnel are behind the smuggling of non-duty paid vehicles into the country.

The authorities concerned of MCC-Hyderabad also served notice of Section 171 of the Customs Act, 1969 to the arrested accused and started further investigation.

Responding to query, the sources said that the authorities concerned of the Collectorate are also investigating the Customs side in order to threat out whether any of Customs officials involved in smuggling the vehicles or not.

It is pertinent to mention here that the authorities concerned of MCC-Hyderabad have confiscated around 22 non-duty paid vehicles from different areas of the city during a month.

The non-duty paid vehicles which have been confiscated by the authorities concerned of MCC-Hyderabad including Amazon, four land cruisers, two Cygnus, two Crown, one Mark-X, Mercedes and a sports car each while the Customs authorities have also confiscated 10 non-duty paid Surf from different areas of Hyderabad.
