GREAT FALLS: U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will host its inaugural CBP Citizens Academy in Great Falls from June 11 to July 16.

The program will be hosted by Border Patrol agents from Havre Sector, CBP officers from the Area Port of Great Falls, and Air Interdiction agents from the Great Falls Air Branch.

Participants will meet on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for six weeks.

The program is offered at no cost to participants and all class materials will be provided.

CBP says the program is designed to give people an inside look into the daily operations of securing the border – at and between the ports of entry – in Montana.

Attendees will be able to participate in interactive demonstrations such as defensive tactics, tracking, and inspections for prohibited items.

Participants will also learn about the roles and responsibilities of each CBP component as well as their mission to secure America’s borders.

Applications are currently being accepted.

The deadline for application is June 1 and the course will be limited to 12 people.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and must submit an application that involves a criminal background check.

For more information or to apply, contact the Havre Sector Public Affairs Office at 406-453-7631 (ext 207) or via email at [email protected].

The Havre Sector of CBP provides law enforcement support for Montana, Wyoming and Idaho, and is responsible for 456 miles of international border, starting along the Montana-North Dakota border to the east and ending at the Continental Divide to the west.

The sector consists of six stations (Plentywood, Scobey, Havre, Malta, St. Mary, and Sweet Grass).

The stations are within 45 minutes or less drive to the border.
