This new oil burners will power the company’s next generation IMV products including 2016 Hilux, Fortuner and the Innova.
The new ‘GD’ engine family will replace the ‘KD’ engine series that powers the outgoing Innova and the Fortuner. While the Innova MPV is powered by a 2.5-litre 2KD-FTV engine, the Fortuner is propelled by a 3.0-litre 1KD-FTV motor. The new GD engine family consists of two motors- a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre. The former will replace the 2.5-litre motor, while the later will come as a replacement for the 3.0-litre unit.
The company revealed that the new engines are fitted with “Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESCTEC)” and a variable geometric turbocharger. The engines will be paired to six-speed manual and automatic transmission gearbox. These engines will first debut on the new Hilux on May 21.
